Personalized in home independent living skills training

The Independent Living Program is for those who are visually impaired or blind and who are not able to participate in the normal activities of daily life. The IL Program helps these individuals maintain and increase their independence in their home and community.

Once our Rehabilitation Teacher receives a referral, a home visit is scheduled to assess his or her needs. Counseling, low vision aids, skills training, and other services help them adjust to their vision loss.

Independent Living services include training in alternative ways of performing tasks with vision loss; information and referrals to local, State, and National programs; and instruction on how to use low vision aids such as magnifiers, talking devices, large print, and other useful tools for people with vision loss.

The first step is to contact the Edith Bishel Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Kennewick, WA; call or stop by to talk with our Independent Living Rehabilitation Teacher Sheila Turner.

Customized computer training and education services

The Center offers adaptive computer training and education for the blind and visually impaired. Instruction is designed to respond not only to a client’s age and special needs, but also to their skill level. Classes are held at Edith Bishel Center; space is limited, so call for more information and to reserve a seat.
